The facility, operated by Farmington, Conn.-based Athena Healthcare Systems, is working with its local ombudsman to transition all current residents to other locations by Nov. 8, according to an Oct. 8 statement shared with Becker’s.
Of the 287 employees working at Abbott Terrace, 34 were transferred to other facilities within the Athena Healthcare network as of Oct. 7, the statement said.
As of Oct. 10, 61 employees have accepted positions within the Athena Healthcare network, an Athena spokesperson told Becker’s.
CMS said the termination stemmed from the “facility’s failure to meet Medicare’s basic health and safety requirements,” according to an Aug. 26 letter from the agency.
In the Oct. 8 statement, Abbott Terrace said it had made efforts in the past several months to comply with CMS facility regulations.
Abbott Terrace’s termination went into effect on Sept. 10, though CMS allowed payments for beneficiaries admitted to the facility before June 4 to continue until Oct. 10 to allow time for the safe relocation of patients, the CMS letter said.
