800 Louisiana nursing home workers laid off following license revocation

More than 800 workers were laid off from seven Louisiana nursing home facilities after the state revoked their licenses, Lafayette Daily Advertiser reported Oct. 27.

The state's health department revoked the licenses and terminated Medicaid provider agreements Sept. 7 after Bob Dean, the owner of seven Louisiana nursing homes, evacuated more than 800 residents to a warehouse during Hurricane Ida where at least four residents died. Dean appealed the state's decision on Oct. 5.

In Wage Adjustment and Retraining Notifications filed with the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the facilities called the license revocations "temporary," and said the decision was being appealed, Lafayette Daily Advertiser reported.

  • Maison DeVille Nursing Home of Harvey, La., laid off 94
