47% of nursing home residents at risk of displacement: 3 notes

About 47 percent of nursing home residents are at risk of displacement because of facilities suffering from financial hardship, a May 25 report conducted by Clifton Larson Allen found.

The "State of the Skilled Nursing Facility Industry" report surveyed over 330 facilities across 24 states with the American Health Care Association.

Three key findings:

  • General inflation for nursing homes increased to 8.5 percent between March 2021 and March 2022.

  • All nurses' hourly wages increased by 28 percent to 34 percent from 2020 to 2022.

  • Around 20.4 percent of nursing homes considered financially at-risk tend to reside in counties serving a higher percentage of racial and ethnic minority populations compared to nursing homes in counties not at financial risk, 13.7 percent.
