Here are four things to know about the initiative.
1. The initiative, called the Global Institute for Hispanic Health, was announced Tuesday in Austin, Texas.
2. The initiative aims to improve healthcare of Hispanics in South Texas, as well as increase participation of Hispanics in clinical drug trials, according to the report.
3. The report states that the initiative will initially be funded with $2 million and will expand across South Texas with the use of specialty clinics, AgriLife Extension and various other programs hosted by Texas A&M.
4. Texas A&M is expected to provide staffing and management, while the hospital will select the researchers, physicians and other community partners to work with the institute, The Eagle reports.
