Congressional panel asks e-cigarette companies to stop advertising

A House subcommittee sent letters to four e-cigarette companies asking them to stop advertising their products, according to CNBC.

U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform's panel on consumer products, sent the letters Sept. 25, the same day Juul announced it would stop all product advertising.

The recipients of the letters were Fontem Ventures, Japan Tobacco International, Reynolds American and NJOY. Mr. Krishnamoorthi asked them to halt their television, radio, print and digital advertising, writing that it's "in the interest of safeguarding the health and well-being of one of our nation's most precious resources — our youth."

Fontem Ventures and Reynolds American told CNBC they received the letter but did not mention whether they'd halt their advertising.
