Competition seeking ideas to improve healthy longevity to launch in 2020

The National Academy of Medicine, in collaboration with eight global organizations, is creating a competition for ideas and solutions to extend human health and function later in life.

The aging population is growing rapidly, and the National Academy of Medicine estimates that by 2050 the number of people over 65 years of age will grow past 1.6 billion.

The National Academy of Medicine is calling for submissions to its Healthy Longevity Global Competition focusing on various areas that could improve healthy longevity, such as disease prevention, mobility, functionality and social connectedness. This represents an opportunity to allow aging adults to continue contributing to the economy, their communities and families while reducing their overall need for social and healthcare services.

The competition will include three phases, with awards ranging from $50,000 in the first phase to one or more grand prizes of up to $5 million. It will begin in 2020 and extend up to 2023.
