American Diabetes Association partners with digital health startup Solera Health

The American Diabetes Association joined forces with Solera Health, a preventive care benefits manager startup, to help diabetes patients access CDC-recognized prevention programs, the company announced Oct. 18.

Solera Health, which launched in 2015, provides an online marketplace for community, digital and national organizations recognized by the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program. The company contracts with payers and manages patient enrollment to connect patients with appropriate lifestyle modification programs as a covered medical benefit.

Under the agreement, Solera Health will help the ADA enroll at-risk individuals in DPPs to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Individuals who take the ADA's Type 2 Diabetes Risk Test will have access to Solera Health's consumer-facing site, Solera4Me, which matches patients with a DPP based on their needs and preferences.

"At the Association, we are focused on preventing, curing and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes," said Tamara Darsow, PhD, senior vice president of research and consumer programs at ADA. "By helping us connect people who are at risk for diabetes with the right DPP to help them prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes, Solera is helping us achieve that mission."
