5 things to know about the world's largest wellness destination's plan to expand

The world's largest health and wellness destination, Dubai Healthcare City in the United Arab Emirates, has unveiled the second phase of its expansion plan in Al Jaddaf, Dubai, according to Emirates 24/7 News.

The expansion will be substantially larger in both area and offerings than any current wellness properties in the U.S. and Europe.

Here are five things to know about WorldCare Wellness Village, Dubai Healthcare City's new health and wellness concept.

1. WorldCare Wellness Village, located on the waterfront of Dubai Healthcare City, will occupy an area roughly equivalent to the size of 16 football fields, according to the report.

2. The wellness concept, which aims to satisfy the growing demand of people seeking evidence-based and holistic care, is led by U.S.-based WorldCare International and developed by Dubai-based MAG Group. WorldCare International is an online medical consultation service provider that digitally connects millions of members from around the world with more than 20,000 specialists.

3. WorldCare Wellness Village will focus on preventive healthcare. "By enabling access to wellness services, we are strengthening the health system and bringing patient-centered care to the forefront," said Raja Al Gurg, vice chairperson and executive director of Dubai Healthcare City Authority, according to the report. "We are confident that Phase 2 will drive wellness tourism together with medical tourism, boosting Dubai's diversified economy. It will bring together unique wellness concepts and specialized services such as rehabilitation, counseling, sports medicine and elderly care for both residents and visitors."

4. A 100,000-square-foot wellness center will be at the heart of the village, and will focus on prevention and management of chronic diseases, such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes. The center will employ more than 100 healthcare and allied professionals, according to the report.

5. The wellness village will also include customized residential villas and apartments, as well as rental units for long-term local and foreign patients. The living spaces will offer eco-friendly wellness and rehabilitation services, such as zero-gravity pools, personalized spas and exercise and diet facilities, according to the report.
