Walgreens, VillageMD team up to offer primary care in Houston

Walgreens is partnering with VillageMD to open several primary care clinics in Houston.

The primary care clinics will be located beside five Walgreens stores. The 2,500-square-foot clinics will give patients access to primary care physicians, pharmacists, nurses and social workers.

The first five clinics are scheduled to open by the end of 2019. The two companies are exploring whether to expand the primary care clinics, which will be called Village Medical at Walgreens.

"This collaboration with VillageMD demonstrates our ongoing commitment to create neighborhood health destinations that bring affordable healthcare services to customers and provide a differentiated patient experience to the communities we serve," said Pat Carroll, MD, Walgreens CMO and group vice president of healthcare services and clinical programs.

This is the latest test for Walgreens, which is already piloting urgent care centers adjacent to several stores in partnership with Humana.

Walgreens rival CVS Health is also testing out HealthHubs in Houston market.
