Walgreens has introduced a hybrid role that allows pharmacists to split time between in-store community pharmacy work and centralized clinical services.
The position enables pharmacists to review prescriptions, provide clinical support and consult with patients and providers from a centralized services location or, in some states, remotely, according to a Feb. 26 news release from the company. Walgreens said the model is designed to expand career pathways while maintaining direct patient care responsibilities. The role is currently offered in Arkansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee, according to the company’s job posting site.
The move comes as Walgreens reshapes operations following its $10 billion acquisition in August by Sycamore Partners, which split Walgreens Boots Alliance into five standalone companies. The company has reduced its workforce in recent years and announced plans in 2024 to close about 1,200 stores over three years as it refocuses on core retail pharmacy operations.
