Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed and Longitude Rx are working together to build out the health system’s specialty pharmacy program.
The work will focus on operational readiness, accreditation preparation, quality standards and the infrastructure to support future growth and market access, according to a Sept. 3 news release.
“Expanding our specialty pharmacy capabilities is an important part of how we continue to evolve the services available to meet the needs of our patients and providers,” Abbie Williamson, PharmD, executive director of pharmacy for WakeMed, said in the release.
The pharmacy program expansion plans come amid WakeMed’s recent filing of four certificate-of-need applications in North Carolina to accommodate nearly $1 billion in hospital and facility expansions.
Longitude Rx, based in Irving, Texas, is a health system-owned specialty pharmacy services organization established in 2025 as part of Longitude Health. Its founding members are Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health, Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System, Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health and Renton, Wash.-based Providence.
WakeMed is a nonprofit system with 973 beds, three full-service hospitals, a mental health hospital, a children’s hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, eight emergency departments and more than 175 physician and physical therapy practice offices.
