UPMC to help build new drug R&D facility

UPMC is teaming up with PharmaLogic Holdings to construct one of the largest U.S.-based facilities for radiopharmaceutical research, production and distribution in Pittsburgh, the two organizations said June 21.

PharmaLogic will manage and invest in building a Current Good Manufacturing Practice facility on UPMC’s campus, and the system will co-fund and “be the anchor clinical customer and provide strategic, research and operational support,” according to a news release from Pittsburgh-based UPMC.

“Under the terms of the non-exclusive agreement, PharmaLogic and UPMC will translate investigational radiopharmaceuticals into clinically relevant drugs for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular and other diseases,” the release said. 

A spokesperson told Becker’s the facility is forecasted to be about 14,500 square feet.
