UC San Diego Health’s specialty pharmacy program has earned Rare Disease Certification from the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, becoming the first health system in the San Diego region to earn the designation.
The program is one of only three certified pharmacies in California, according to an Aug. 17 news release. The certification is intended to expand access to specialized medications and pharmacist support for patients with rare diseases.
UC San Diego Health said the certification process required months of preparation, including the development of clinical care plans and continuity-of-care connections with providers.
