Three major pharmacy organizations called to improve workplace conditions in retail and hospital pharmacies in a Sept. 29 report.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American Pharmacists Association and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy published a report outlining several concerns and proposed solutions. The report focused on industry advancement, technology and workflow improvements, workforce support, mental health initiatives, and regulatory and legislative models to enhance the profession.

For health systems, the organizations recommended creating a chief pharmacy informatics officer role, removing barriers to mental healthcare for employees, and applying industrial engineering and Lean techniques to pharmacy workflows.
