Kenton, Ohio-based OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital expanded access to specialty infusion care after its pharmacy and infusion teams worked to make an anti-rejection medication available locally for a transplant patient.
The hospital said the effort is part of a broader push to make more acute and specialty care available locally, according to a Sept. 9 news release. Patients who travel outside the community for infusions can contact Hardin Memorial to determine whether their treatment can be provided at the hospital.
The move reflects a broader trend of health systems expanding local pharmacy and infusion capacity to address access gaps. Northern Inyo Healthcare District and Cleveland Clinic are among several systems that have recently opened or expanded local pharmacies and infusion centers to fill service gaps in their communities.
