Novo Nordisk prolongs rationing Wegovy solutions

After three months of Novo Nordisk restricting supply to lower doses of its popular weight loss drug Wegovy, the company said Aug. 10 it will continue to limit its supply.

"This is a slightly different approach [than] we have taken before given the high demand there is. We are continuing to roll it out," Camilla Sylvest, executive vice president of commercial strategy and corporate affairs, said in a call with investors. "You can say we take a responsible approach and an approach that considers the high uptake on the demand so that we can ensure patient continuity."

The company told CNBC it is working to increase Wegovy supply in the short- and long-term but will continue to ration lower-dose strengths.

On July 20, the FDA posted an update on the Wegovy shortage and listed the 0.25 milligram / 0.5 milliliter, 0.5 milligram / 0.5 milliliter and 1 milligram / 0.5 milliliter solutions as being in limited availability through September.
