The drugmaker plans to transfer production from Hauppauge to its other facilities around the globe, including to a larger facility in South Yaphank, N.Y. However, some workers at the South Yaphank facility also will be laid off, according to the report.
The restructuring and layoffs are expected to save Amneal $50 million per year. The drugmaker will incur a one-time severance payment charge of $10 million to $12 million.
The drugmaker said it is losing money because of competition, sales declines and lower generic drug prices.
