Omaha-based University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy has received Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education approval to offer an extended PharmD curriculum.
Beginning in 2027, the college will become the second public university in the country to enroll students in an extended PharmD program, following the University of Hawaii-Hilo, according to an Aug. 5 university news release. Students will be able to choose between the traditional four-year program or complete the same curriculum over six years.
The first cohort is set to matriculate in August 2027. Don Klepser, PhD, Joseph D. Williams Endowed Dean, said the program is designed to make pharmacy education more accessible for working adults balancing jobs, caregiving and other responsibilities. The extended pathway will provide the same curriculum, assessments and expectations as the traditional four-year program.
