Columbia, Mo.-based MU Health Care has signed an agreement to acquire Summit Pharmacy in Holts Summit, Mo., with the transaction expected to be finalized in December.
Upon completion, Summit Pharmacy will become the 12th community pharmacy in the Mizzou Pharmacy network, according to an Oct. 26 news release. The acquisition follows the May 5 opening of a new MU Health Care primary care clinic in Holts Summit.
MU Health Care expects to purchase the pharmacy’s inventory and offer employment opportunities to eligible Summit Pharmacy employees. The acquisition will also offer enhanced coordination between pharmacists and healthcare providers.
Summit Pharmacy will remain open throughout the transition and will reopen Dec. 7 as a Mizzou Pharmacy location. Patients are not expected to take any action regarding their prescriptions.
