Madelia (Minn.) Health will close its only pharmacy May 28 due to rising costs.

The location is the sole pharmacy in Lake Crystal, Minn., which has a population of 2,539, according to a May 12 Free Press report. The drugstore has been operating for five years.

“Much like others in the industry, Madelia Health has not been immune to the challenges of the current pharmaceutical climate, including rising costs,” the system said in a May 12 news release.

Madelia Health CEO David Walz, RN, said in the statement that the system is working to ensure a smooth transition of care for patients and encouraging pharmacy employees to seek other positions at the system.

The system manages a 25-bed acute care hospital, four clinics and two physical therapy offices.
