Cleveland-based MetroHealth System has opened its 12th retail pharmacy, located at the Brooklyn Health Center in Ohio.

The new site fills a healthcare need following recent closures of three national chain pharmacies in the area, the system said in a March 15 news release.

“These pharmacies leaving the market are creating pharmacy deserts and making it harder for patients to have access to their medications,” Ryan Mezinger, RPh, senior vice president and chief pharmacy officer, said in the release. “We are going to continue to grow operations and fulfill that need.”

MetroHealth operates five hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers, according to its website.
