The legislation seeks to increase regulation of PBMs and provides additional protections for independent pharmacies in Kansas, according to Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
“At the attorney general’s office, we are holding PBMs accountable for unlawful business practices that have cost Kansas taxpayers tens of millions of dollars through public healthcare programs,” Mr. Schmidt said in an April 1 statement. “This bill will provide similar protections for Kansans throughout our state, including many independent pharmacies.”
The House passed the bill March 21 in a 120-2 vote, and the Senate approved the legislation 39-0 on March 30.
The bill was sent to Gov. Laura Kelly’s desk April 1 for signing.
