Illinois will provide $24.7 million in funding to 434 pharmacies through the Illinois Pharmacy Support Program.
The program was created to support pharmacies at risk of closure or financial strain, particularly those serving rural areas, low-income communities and populations with limited access to healthcare, according to a June 12 announcement from Gov. JB Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Retail Merchants Association. Every eligible pharmacy that applied received $56,892.
The 434 pharmacies receiving funding are located across almost all 102 Illinois counties. Eligible recipients included critical access pharmacies, independent pharmacies with fewer than 10 locations, pharmacies in rural counties with fewer than 50,000 residents and pharmacies serving predominantly Medicaid patients.
State officials said the funding can be used to support existing operations and expand services, including extended pharmacy hours, telepharmacy services, remote consultations and medication delivery.
