Humana’s CenterWell Pharmacy has initiated full operations at its CenterWell Pharmacy mail-order distribution center in Orlando, Fla.

The $83 million investment aims to increase prescription delivery capacity in the state, according to a May 27 news release. Humana has substantial Medicare Advantage, managed Medicaid and Tricare populations in Florida.

“This distribution center gives us expanded capacity to meet increased demand for timely, reliable medication access, closing the distance when delivering to patients here in Florida and throughout the southeast United States,” CenterWell Pharmacy COO Guillermo Sollberger said. “The facility also gives us access to a talented workforce in greater Orlando, an area known for its specialty pharmacy ecosystem.”

The facility is CenterWell’s third mail-order pharmacy in the U.S., building on facilities in Arizona and Ohio. The distribution center can process and dispense up to 64,000 prescriptions daily, and more than 165 people staff it. CenterWell’s care delivery operation in Florida employs more than 6,500 overall.

“As Florida’s senior population continues to grow, CenterWell’s integrated care model offers improved health and simplified care for those we serve,” CenterWell President Sanjay Shetty, MD, said. “This critical expansion of pharmacy services deepens our commitment to our patients in Florida and to the entire community, including thousands of local teammates.”

Along with serving as a mail-order pharmacy for Humana members, CenterWell has also been working on direct-to-consumer and direct-to-employer access initiatives. The pharmacy confirmed a collaboration with Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drug Co. for an employer-based program in April.
