Rep. Tim Kennedy, D-N.Y., has secured $338,000 in federal funding to expand drug compounding capacity in Western New York.
The investment will support development of a secure, regulated space at Buffalo, N.Y.-based D’Youville University’s School of Pharmacy for sterile and nonsterile compounding, aimed at addressing ongoing drug shortages and improving access to treatments such as cancer therapies, according to a May 1 news release.
The expansion also seeks to close regional access gaps and support research and workforce development tied to pharmacy services in the region. The nearest provider offering sterile, nonsterile and hazardous compounding services is about 15 miles away, creating barriers for patients requiring complex therapies.
