Pharmacies and healthcare providers may still dispense unexpired Paxlovid doses, labeled with emergency use authorization, through this date. After March 8, all doses must be returned to Pfizer or disposed of properly, the FDA said in a Jan. 29 notice.
The revision comes about eight months after the FDA approved Pfizer’s new drug application for Paxlovid to treat COVID-19 in adults at high -risk of severe complications, including hospitalization or death.
The agency will continue emergency use authorization for Paxlovid in high-risk pediatric patients ages 12 and up.
