Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services has become the first health system in the U.S. to deploy the BD Vmax 160, a pharmacy automation robot designed for high-volume, centralized outpatient pharmacy operations.
The health system deployed the technology as it invests in centralized pharmacy operations to manage growing demand for specialty therapies and refrigerated medications, according to a Sept. 14 news release.
Fairview fills an average of 20,000 prescriptions per week and provides medication access across Minnesota through 25 outpatient pharmacies and mail-order services.
The robot automates inventory replenishment and labeling and supports medication storage at 2 to 8 C. Another feature allows medications to be loaded in three seconds per tote with 99.8% accuracy.
