Nearly all states and regions are reporting very high or high levels of flu activity as the whole nation tackles hikes in influenza-like illness. In spite of the surge, the Tamiflu fill rate has dipped for the past two weeks as of the week ending Dec. 10.
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists noted Dec. 2 that five drugmakers were short on oseltamivir, the drug’s generic name — the update was a minor improvement from the supply issue in early November. Tamiflu’s drugmaker, Novo Nordisk, told Becker’s in November the company has “sufficient supply” of the product, and CBS affiliate station WTSP reported the generic’s shortage is sporadic and not nationwide.
The FDA has not listed Tamiflu or oseltamivir products on its drug shortage database.
