Civica, a nonprofit drug manufacturer, offers more than 70 generic sterile injectables and has a member base of more than 50 hospitals and health systems.
Health systems representing 500 hospitals and a few philanthropic organizations founded Civica in 2018 to prevent and mitigate drug shortages.
Eight years later, Civica supplies dozens of essential medicines to more than 1,400 hospitals, reaching nearly 95 million patients, according to a Jan. 29 news release.
Physicians and pharmacists at Civica’s member hospitals select the medications the organization provides. All member hospitals receive the same cost-plus price, the release said.
