Biogen’s R&D chief steps down

Biogen appointed two members to its senior leadership team after its research and development chief stepped down, according to an Oct. 1 news release.

Michael Ehlers, MD, PhD, stepped down as Biogen’s executive vice president of R&D to pursue another job opportunity. He will leave the company Oct. 11.

Dr. Ehlers will be replaced by Biogen’s current CMO Alfred Sandrock Jr., MD, PhD. Dr. Sandrock will continue to serve as CMO in addition to his new executive role.

Alphonse Galdes, PhD, was named the executive vice president of pharmaceutical operations and technology. Dr. Galdes has been with Biogen since 1995, serving in several senior leadership positions, including most recently as senior vice president, asset development and portfolio management.
