The policy gives the AMA’s support to two bills, H.R. 2245 and S. 296, which would require drug manufactures to notify the FDA of any interruption or discontinuance that could result in a drug shortage.
The policy also authorizes the AMA to lobby the FDA and/or Congress to require drug manufacturers to establish a plan for maintaining the supply of “vital and life-sustaining medications and vaccines” in order to avoid shortages, according to an AMA news release.
