With the app, members can search for lower-cost drug options, track refills and get reminders of when it is time to get one, locate in-network pharmacies, and access information related to coverage, prescriptions, dependent prescriptions and more.
“Pharmacy benefits are a crucial part of health care,” Mark Chassay, MD, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas’ chief medical officer, said in the April 19 press release. The app’s goal is to provide members a way to have more autonomy over how they “choose how to spend their healthcare dollars,” he said.
As of the morning of April 20, one day after the app’s debut, it had more than 100 downloads in the Google Play store. Total downloads from the Apple App Store were not publicly available, but the payer’s accompanying general member app, BCBSTX, is ranked 196th among health and fitness apps.
