The American Society of Health‑System Pharmacists has partnered with HOSA-Future Health Professionals to introduce middle and high school students to careers in hospital and health system pharmacy.
The collaboration builds on the ASHP’s We’re Your Pharmacist public awareness campaign, which focuses on pharmacists’ patient care roles in medication safety and access, according to a May 5 ASHP news release.
As part of the partnership, the ASHP will sponsor the pharmacy science competition at HOSA’s International Leadership Conference and host pharmacy career workshops during the event. The organization also plans to provide educational resources for classrooms, including videos, webinars and interactive learning tools.
The ASHP said the initiative is intended to increase awareness of pharmacy career paths and support the future pharmacy workforce. Resources developed through the partnership will outline the education and training needed to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or certified pharmacy technician credential.
