A treatment for hospital-acquired pneumonia, a new migraine injection & 2 more FDA approvals

Four drugs or medical devices approved by the FDA since May 31:

1. Emgality, manufactured by Eli Lilly, is the first migraine treatment approved in the U.S. for decreasing the frequency of episodic cluster headache attacks.

2. Zerbaxa, a combination of cephalosporin ceftolozane and tazobactam, was approved for the treatment of hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia. The drug was initially approved in 2014 to treat intra-abdominal infections and complicated urinary tract infections.

3. Slynd is a progestin-only contraceptive. It has 24 active pills and 4 inactive ones. It allows for a 24-hour missed-pill window.

4. Nexus, manufactured by Misonix, integrates the features of three previous platforms used for cutting bone, removing tumors  and trimming foreign material and damaged tissue from wounds.
