6 recent executive resignations affecting the pharma industry

Below are six executive resignations affecting the pharmaceutical industry that were announced this month:

1. Christi Shaw, Eli Lilly's president of biomedicines, will step down from her role in August, the drugmaker announced July 11. 

2. Consumer genetics company 23andMe is losing its chief scientific officer, Richard Scheller, PhD, who was responsible for finding and developing new drugs. Dr. Scheller has left the company to join biotechnology company BridgeBio as chairman of research and development. He will remain on 23andMe's board of directors. 

3. Walgreens CMO Patrick Carroll, MD, is leaving the retail pharmacy giant to join health and wellness company Hims & Hers as its first CMO, the executive announced in a blog post July 9. 

4. Cardinal Health CFO Jorge Gomez will step down from his role Aug. 9 to join Dentsply Sirona, a dental products maker.

5. Merrimack Pharmaceuticals President and CEO Richard Peters and CFO Jean Franchi have resigned. The drugmaker plans to lay off its entire staff and wind down operations.
