Active drug shortages in the U.S. rose for the second consecutive quarter in 2026, reaching 223 in the first quarter, according to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists — and the FDA’s database continues to reflect new discontinuations weekly. The database is updated daily to reflect manufacturing recoveries, regulatory actions and how shortages are classified — not solely day-to-day availability at the hospital level.

Here are five recent drug shortages, according to the FDA database:

  1. Caspofungin acetate injection: Sandoz discontinued the 5-milligram/milliliter and 7-milligram/milliliter vial presentations (manufactured by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals) on June 30. Fresenius Kabi discontinued its own 7-milligram/milliliter presentation in January.
  2. Daptomycin injection: Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals discontinued two 500-milligram/10-milliliter presentations on June 30, one of them marketed by Hikma Pharmaceuticals.
  3. Gadobutrol injection: Fresenius Kabi discontinued four single-dose vial presentations of the 604.72-milligram/milliliter formulation on June 30. The company’s two Imaging Bulk Package strengths remain in supply.
  4. Gadoterate meglumine injection: Fresenius Kabi discontinued four presentations of the 376.9-milligram/milliliter formulation, according to the FDA database.
  5. Oxaliplatin injection: Sagent Pharmaceuticals discontinued two 5-milligram/milliliter presentations on June 29.
