UPMC, Aetna extend contract through 2021

Pittsburgh-based UPMC and Aetna inked a new agreement to ensure the health insurer’s commercial and Medicare Advantage members will remain in network with UPMC facilities and physicians, the companies said Aug. 2.

The multiyear contract extends an agreement between Aetna and UPMC through 2021.

Aetna covers about 1.2 million customers in Pennsylvania under its commercial and Medicare Advantage plans. Hospitals affected by the contract include UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside in Pittsburgh, UPMC Magee-Womens in Pittsburgh, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh and UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa.
