UnitedHealthcare, Apple offering free at-home fitness subscriptions to members

A partnership between UnitedHealthcare and Apple is providing about 3 million commercial members with free access to Apple Fitness+, a fitness service built around the Apple Watch.

The move is the first time Apple Fitness+ is working alongside a health plan, according to a Sept. 23 news release.

Starting Nov. 1, a free 12-month subscription will be included in select member benefits. Apple Fitness+ includes access to over 1,200 on-demand fitness classes including strength training, yoga, cycling, rowing and more.

Employers with self-funded plans can purchase an Apple Fitness Bundle starting next year, which includes a 12-month Apple Fitness+ subscription and $25 Apple gift card.

The new initiative also allows UnitedHealthcare Motion members to use program incentives to purchase Apple Fitness+ subscriptions.
