UnitedHealth paid employers $146M in rebates in 2017

UnitedHealthcare, the health insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group, issued $146.2 million in rebates to large and small employers in 2017, according to the Star Tribune.

That's up 40 percent from $104.3 million in 2016, according to data from Mark Farrah Associates cited by the Star Tribune.

Under the ACA, health insurers are required to pay rebates to large and small employers if they don't spend roughly 80 to 85 percent of premium revenue on medical care.

Total rebates for all health insurers grew to $709 million in 2017, up from $446 million in 2016, according to the report.
