South Dakota latest state campaigning for Medicaid expansion

South Dakota organizations are working with national nonprofit The Fairness Project to get a Medicaid expansion initiative on the 2022 ballot, according to Forbes.

"South Dakotans have waited long enough to get the same access to health care that Americans in North Dakota, Nebraska and 38 other states receive," Kelly Hall, director of policy and partnerships for The Fairness Project, told the publication. "It's time to give voters there a real say."

Expansion of the Medicaid program would provide 40,000 additional low-income residents of the state with healthcare coverage, as well as additional state funding under President Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan, the article said.

The Fairness Project has assisted in launching Medicaid expansion campaigns in multiple Republican-leaning states.
