Piedmont Healthcare, Cigna reach value-based agreement

Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare and Cigna extended their contract multiple years under a new value-based agreement.

Launched in 2010, the Piedmont-Cigna collaborative care program has lowered healthcare costs for Cigna members year over year. Under the extension, Cigna members will continue to have in-network access to Piedmont's 11 hospitals and more than 2,000 physicians.

The collaboration has also held Piedmont's costs below market average since 2014. A pilot of Cigna's collaborative coverage for Piedmont employees found that during the past five years, employees' medical benefit costs grew less than the rate of inflation.
