Consumers across the U.S. are reportedly receiving automated calls from scammers posing as Premier Health representatives selling Premier Health Plan insurance, according to a WHIO TV 7 report.
Dayton, Ohio-based Premier Health, however, stopped selling Premier-branded health insurance plans April 1, 2018, when the division was shut down.
Here are six things to know about the scam:
1. Some consumers received automated calls, while others received "premium" invoices or found unauthorized charges on their bank accounts, according to the report.
2. Consumers who expressed interest in the plans to the scammers were transferred to an individual who asked for their bank account information.
3. Consumers who weren't interested in the fake plans were referred to Premier Health Plan's legitimate website or told to call Premier Health Plan's actual member call center.
4. For consumers who received bills, invoices appeared to be on real Premier Health Plan letterhead.
5. Of those consumers who identified unauthorized charges on their bank account statements, the charges appeared from "Premier Heal."
6. Premier issued the following statement about the scam on its website: "If you recently received a telephone call asking whether you would be interested in purchasing health insurance from Premier Health Plan, please note this call was NOT from or authorized by Premier Health Plan and is a scam. If you would like to submit a complaint about this call to the Federal Trade Commission, which helps protect individuals by preventing deceptive and unfair business practices, please contact the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Response Center at 1-877-FTC-HELP or 1-877-382-4357."
