Oscar Health launches functionality for transgender, nonbinary members

Oscar Health has launched MyIdentity, a new functionality within the company's app that allows transgender and nonbinary members to input their current names, pronouns and gender identity, a July 13 news release said.

Members are presented with the feature during the onboarding process and can also access it through the company's website.

"While there is still more work to be done, I am proud of our team of engineers who, through our unique full-stack technology, are able to quickly and proficiently meet the needs of our transgender and non-binary members to help them feel both seen and heard," Oscar Health CEO Mario Schlosser said in the statement.

The company cited a 2015 study by the National Center for Transgender Equality that showed a quarter of transgender Americans did not seek medical care when they were ill due to fears of discrimination and mistreatment.
