Oscar Health focuses on expansion, 'culturally competent' care for 2022

On the heels of its second-quarter earnings report, New York City-based insurance startup Oscar Health painted a bold 2022 agenda laden with expansion and supporting inclusive care.

Come the 2022 open enrollment period, Oscar Health said it will expand to three new states and 146 new counties, according to an Aug. 13 release. The new states are Arkansas, Illinois and Nebraska, with states like Colorado, Florida, Georgia and more seeing a further expansion of the insurer's footprint.

The 2022 expansion would mark the fifth year in a row that Oscar Health has broadened its reach.

Alongside the expansion will be a development of programs, including a Culturally Competent Care program that focuses on specific access for "members with diverse values, beliefs, and behaviors," according to the announcement.

Oscar Health also announced a new health plan tailored toward members with diabetes. The plan features $0 diabetic eye and foot exams, lab visits to manage diabetes, primary care visits and capped out-of-pocket insulin costs.
