Private: 56 percent
Medicaid: 21 percent
Medicare: 14 percent
Uninsured: 9 percent
Other: 1 percent
The number of covered lives by type:
Medicaid: 54 million
Large group: 42.3 million
Medicare Advantage: 20 million
Health savings account/high-deductible health plan: 15.6 million
Medigap: 13.5 million
Small group: 13 million
Individual: 13 million
The number of people employed by health insurers:
Insurance-related employees: 962,930
Health plan employees: 573,730
The payroll of health insurer employees:
Insurance-related employees: $64.2 billion
Health plan employees: $45.3 billion
The average wage of health insurer employees:
Health plan employees: $79,017
