Marin General Hospital, UnitedHealthcare Reach "Agreement in Principle"

Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., hopes to finalize the details of a new agreement with health insurer UnitedHealthcare within a couple of weeks, according to a Marin Independent Journal report.

Marin General Chief Administrative Officer Jon Friedenberg told the Journal the hospital has reached "an agreement in principle" with the insurer, and they have extended their existing contract through Jan. 17 to allow for more time to finalize the new agreement, according to the report.

Last month, UnitedHealthcare sent letters to its policyholders warning of potential higher out-of-network costs for care at Marin General if the hospital and insurer didn't agree on a new contract by the end of December.

UnitedHealthcare spokeswoman Cheryl Randolph told the Journal the insurer is continuing discussions with Marin General and hopes to strike a new agreement.
