The bill applies to broad mental healthcare, but also includes mental, emotional, nervous and substance use disorders, Heart of Illinois ABC reported Aug. 25. Illinois is the third state to require such coverage. The law goes into effect Jan. 1, 2023.
“Increasing access to mental health treatment is vital to every Illinoisan,” said state Sen. Laura Fine, D-Glenview. “Especially now, when the crisis has been made worse by the pandemic.”
