Humana, UVA health facilities ink deal: 3 things to know

The University of Virginia in Charlottesville has agreed to a new contract with health insurer Humana for its health facilities, according to a Culpeper Star-Exponent report.

Here are three things to know about the contract.

1. Under the agreement, people covered by Humana will receive in-network access to the University of Virginia's hospitals, clinics and physicians in Culpeper, Charlottesville and throughout Central Virginia.

2. More than 10,000 people covered by Humana's Medicare Advantage plans and Humana's Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plan in the region and 140,000 across Virginia are affected by the partnership, according to the report.

3. The agreement takes effect Jan. 1, 2016.
