At the same time, Humana's expenses grew 16.1 percent to $15.4 billion, up year over year from $13.2 billion. After including nonoperating results, the insurer ended the third quarter of 2019 with net income of $689 million, up 7 percent from $644 million posted in the same quarter of 2018.
