Mr. Broussard made the comments to investors during a May 1 earnings conference call. Speaking against various “Medicare for All” proposals pitched by 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls, Mr. Broussard said Humana was against any plan that would end Medicare Advantage or “make private insurance illegal.”
Mr. Broussard is the second for-profit health insurance CEO to speak out against Medicare for All proposals. In April, UnitedHealth Group CEO David Wichmann told investors that Medicare for All policies would “surely jeopardize the relationship people have with their doctors, destabilize the nation’s health system and limit the ability of clinicians to practice medicine at their best.”
